Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly 'very close' to becoming the new manager of the Uruguayan national team.
That is according to Argentinian outlet TyC Sports (via Marca), who have reported that the 67-year-old is on the verge of succeeding Diego Alonso.
Alonso left his post after less than a year in charge following Uruguay's disappointing group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Negotiations are reportedly in the final stages, and Bielsa is expected to sign a contract until the end of the South American qualifiers, with the possibility of extending his deal until the 2026 World Cup.
Bielsa has been out of work since his sacking from Leeds in February 2022. The Argentine became an immediate hit with the Leeds faithful, and his attacking style of play propelled them to the Championship title in 2020, before they then posted a ninth-place finish upon their Premier League return.
He has been linked with a number of clubs since his Elland Road departure but recently turned down the chance to take over at Premier League rivals Everton.
Uruguay would be the third South American nation he has managed. Bielsa was in charge of his native Argentina between 1998 and 2005, and also spent four years as Chile manager.
