Leeds United land confidence boost at ideal time despite 'tight' Premier League warning

Former Leeds United midfielder Michael Brown believes his old side will have enough to stay in the Premier League this season, although admits the battle to avoid relegation will be 'tight'.

Brown, who made 78 appearances for the Whites, has been impressed with how Javi Gracia's side have responded in recent weeks, with wins over Wolves and Nottingham Forest easing the pressure a little. However, with so many teams scrapping at the wrong end of the Premier League table, the battle is far from over.

Leeds take on Crystal Palace at Elland Road this weekend, but then face Liverpool and Fulham in two games against sides pushing to be involved in the European picture come the end of the season. And while Brown knows it won't be easy, he believes recent performances will have given the Whites the confidence they need to get over the line.

“I was concerned about Leeds, but then I covered their game against Wolves when they won 4-2 last month,” Brown told William Hill and Footy Accumulators’ podcast, No Tippy Tappy Football. “You look at that result away from home – some were thinking that Wolves had turned a corner under Julen Lopetegui, so to go and score so many goals and create chances, while remaining defensively good is very impressive.

“Leeds have got some difficult games coming up, but that result will give them confidence at the right time – it can get a little bit hostile at Leeds and the players and fans begin to worry, so it’s going to be tight for them.

"I’ve always looked at Bournemouth and Southampton and thought, ‘they’re done’, but now they’re both starting to get results; it’s just getting tighter and tighter.”
