Smiles have never been far from Michael Skubala’s face since taking the reins at Leeds United. It’s abundantly clear how much the under-21s boss is enjoying this step up.
There is, he admits, one large obstacle he has to clear most days and it will tally with many fans’ own daily lives. Twenty-four hours in the day just don’t seem like enough to get everything done.
Skubala has thrived on the opportunity to work with some of the best footballers in Europe on a daily basis. He has also loved coming up with tactical plans that might stop a Manchester United or an Everton.

“Really enjoyed it,” he said. “Really, really, enjoyed it. Exciting, I love working with top players, I love setting up a game plan for top opposition, so I can't say I don't enjoy it.
“Every day is a pleasure to come into work and work for the club and work for the players. Biggest challenges? Time. Time as a manager, it's one of the things I've learned is being really conscious about your time and focusing on the players, but not a problem.”
On Sunday afternoon, in the aftermath of the defeat, Skubala talked up the importance of a head coach decision and everyone knowing where they stood. By Monday night, he was sat at Elland Road, with the backroom team and Victor Orta to iron out the details of his continuation in the caretaker role.
"The club have been great, Victor’s been great, the board have been great, everybody's been great around the club," he said. "I just said if you want me to support I'll carry on doing it and if I can help in this moment, that's all I want to do.
"They've been really supportive of me, helping them get through these moments."
