Leeds United injury and suspension list in full as key man in contention for crucial Brentford clash

Leeds United’s Premier League fate will be decided on Sunday as they make the trip to Brentford in the season finale. The Whites head into the match in the bottom three on goal difference after Burnley’s 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on Thursday.

Jesse Marsch’s side know that they now have to better Burnley’s result against Newcastle in order to maintain their Premier League status. Ahead of the weekend, here is a look at Leeds’ full injury list following Marsch’s press conference yesterday afternoon.

Patrick Bamford – foot

Patrick Bamford is in contention to be in the squad for Sunday after Marsch confirmed that he has been training this week. The Leeds manager, though, refused to confirm whether he would definitely be involved.

What Marsch said (20.05.22): “Patrick Bamford has looked really good this week, we still haven’t made a final decision on where he’ll stand for the moment on Sunday but he had a day off today inside to recuperate effectively but we’re hopeful we can make the decision in the next couple of days that we can make him available for minutes on Sunday.

Potential return date: 22/05/22

Luke Ayling – suspended/knee

Luke Ayling was already set to miss the rest of the season through suspension but could now miss the next four months after undergoing knee surgery. Leeds are hoping he will be back fully fit for Autumn.

What Marsch said (20.05.22): “Luke Ayling had successful surgery yesterday, based on how the surgery went we’re hopeful he’ll be out between two and four months. We’ll see how he progresses but it’s a knee issue that he had to get sorted out so we decided to take this time to get him healthy.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Robin Koch – knock

Robin Koch limped off in the second half of the 1-1 draw with Brighton holding his hip. He has taken part in training this week, though, and is available for selection for Sunday’s game.

What Marsch said (20.05.22): “Robin trained today, then everyone else who was available for last weekend will be available here. I think he [Koch] will be ready from the start.”

Potential return date: 22/05/22

Daniel James – suspended

Like Ayling, Daniel James is missing for the rest of the season after picking up a straight red card. He was sent off for a poor tackle on Mateo Kovacic in the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea and so will play no part in Sunday’s match.

What Marsch said (11.05.22): “ At first I thought it wasn’t a red. I haven’t seen it but I was told it was a red. Dan said he didn’t mean to do it, he was just trying to be aggressive to win the ball and caught him in a little bit of a bad way Dan feels terrible.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Tyler Roberts – hamstring

Tyler Roberts is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a hamstring injury and returned to full training on Friday. The game tomorrow, though, will come too early for the Wales international.

What Marsch said (20.05.22): “Tyler Roberts was in training today but will not be available for selection, it was his first day back in training. It’s good to have him back and he’s ahead of schedule and will certainly be ready for the start of next year.”

Potential return date: 27/06/22

Stuart Dallas – leg

Marsch confirmed in his press conference on prior to the game with Arsenal that Stuart Dallas had undergone successful surgery on a femoral fracture he suffered against Manchester City. Dallas, who had started every game since Leeds’ promotion, is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

What’s been said (May 6): “I want to start with Stuart Dallas. He had a successful surgery, it was a long surgery – five and a half hours. But they believe that the outcome was very positive and they say it’ll be a long recovery, but believe it will be a full recovery.

“He has had something like 400-500 messages from fans, family and friends. We know that he’s loved and I think that this moment proved that more than anything…

“I think we can safely say it’ll be six months but it could be longer and I don’t want to rush anything.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Crysencio Summerville – ankle

Crysencio Summerville has been absent since prior to the Crystal Palace match last month after suffering an ankle injury in training. That was yet another blow for Leeds suffered in training after Adam Forshaw’s knee injury a few days earlier.

What Marsch said (April 28): “Picked up an injury in the last training session before the Palace match. He twisted his ankle and will be done for the season.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Adam Forshaw – knee

In a very unfortunate training ground incident last month, Adam Forshaw was ruled out for the rest of the season ahead of the game with Palace. He is set to be ready for the start of the new season, though.

What Marsch said (22.04.22): “We had an unfortunate injury with Adam. He took a knock and fractured his knee cap. It’s a six-week injury, so that puts him out for the season. By summer, he’ll be back and ready to go.”

Potential return date: Unknown
