Here are the latest Leeds United headlines on Saturday, July 23.
Newcastle eye Harrison alternative
Newcastle United have enquired about Stade Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana. Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that the Magpies were going to go back to Leeds with an improved offer, while the Mail report that Newcastle are put off by their £35m valuation.
The Ghanaian international is highly-rated and has also received interest from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Ajax. Rennes signed the 20-year-old from Nordsjaelland last year, and he is now valued at £30m.
Leeds will be even more desperate to keep Harrison after new signing Luis Sinisterra was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury in the Whites’ 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

Shackleton contract option emerges
Millwall have reportedly negotiated an ‘option to buy’ clause as part of their loan deal for Jamie Shackleton, according to the South London Press. Shackleton joined The Lions on a season-long loan during the week, joining fellow Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell at the Den.
The 22-year-old featured in the opening friendly against Blackpool but wasn’t included in Jesse Marsch’s 26-man squad to Australia, instead remaining in the UK to sort out of his own future. That future will be at Millwall, and although the current deal is temporary, the Lions have a clause inserted that will allow them to sign Shackleton permanently next summer if they wish.
Supercomputer predicts another season of struggle
The sports forecasting website, FiveThirtyEight, have predicted Leeds will be struggling once again. The Whites are predicted to finish 15th place with a 27% possibility of suffering relegation.
The 2022/23 Premier League season will be particularly interesting, especially for Leeds United supporters. They will be watching their team – almost unrecognisable from last term – with a full pre-season under Jesse Marsch.
Fans of both Leeds and their rivals are expecting the campaign to go one of two ways. The close shave with relegation a couple of months ago has led to a wave of pessimism that too many changes have been made in such a short period of time. But, others who have seen Marsch operate at his former clubs, are expecting a strong response to last season.
