Leeds United's scouting department may have a new darling based on latest glowing endorsement
Joyful, intelligent, humble and ambitious: Leeds United’s coaching staff have struck gold with Willfried Gnonto. As students come, the likes of Jesse Marsch and Rene Maric could not ask for much more from the attentive 19-year-old.
The Italy international arrived at Elland Road on September 1, the final day of the summer transfer window, and within a few days, there was a video of his first meeting with Marsch. Gnonto goes into a room where the coaching staff are meeting before he and the head coach chat about his background, language skills and family.
Maric was asked about Gnonto after Friday’s win over Real Sociedad. The assistant head coach could be seen playfully shoving the forward after his substitution, acknowledging another impressive showing on the field.
"He's great, just great," Maric said.
"The moment he came in, you saw the video when him and Jesse met the first time, you just see Willy’s personality."
Leeds United could secure move for next Dusan Vlahovic after striker 'loses patience'
Leeds United could move ahead of a number of clubs in the race to sign up and coming Croatian talent Dion Beljo, according to reports in Germany.
German media outlet Bild, claim the striker is losing patience with Borussia Monchengladbach over a reported move to the Bundesliga side.
It's believes the Germany side view Beljo as a long-term successor to that of French forward Marcus Thuram, who has been linked with a move away from the club this summer. The French international is widely expected to leave Borussia next summer, with his contract expiring in 2023.
The Bundesliga side reportedly made contact to sign Beljo during the recent summer window, but no move would come to fruition. The 20-year old has scored eight goals and notched two assists in 16 league games for Osijek so far this season.
