Leeds United headlines ahead of crunch final day Premier League clash against Brentford

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday, May 22.

Full Leeds United squad revealed for Brentford decider with Patrick Bamford back in frame

Leeds United have been handed a big boost with the news that England international Patrick Bamford will be in the squad for their final day of the season clash against Brentford.

Scorer of 17 goals last season in the Premier League, Bamford has been restricted to only seven starts this term due to a spate of injuries. The 28-year-old has not played for Leeds since he ruptured his plantar fasciitis in the 3-2 away win at Wolves in March.

However, he has trained well this week and seem more than likely to make an appearance against Brentford. It seems to be a question of how many minutes he will play rather than if he is able to get on the pitch now.

Leeds have lacked a cutting edge in front of goal in recent months. Bringing Bamford back into the fold for the Brentford tie could have a season saving impact.

Jesse Marsch's other big starting XI decision appears to be whether or not last weekend's injury time hero Pascal Struijk gets the nod over Junior Firpo at left-back.

The financial impact Premier League relegation would have on Leeds United

The impact of relegation upon Leeds United would hit the club both on and off the pitch. Jesse Marsch's side face off against Brentford later this afternoon knowing that if they do not better Burnley's result against Newcastle, they will be relegated.

Even then, should both sides win their final game of the season, then Leeds will more than likely be relegated on goal difference, with Burnley having a +20 better goal difference on the Whites.

According to the Daily Mail, there will be a compulsory wage cut between 20 and 50 per cent in the event that Leeds do go down. Additionally, Leeds' revenue will be heavily impacted by a drop down to the Championship.

Pontus Jansson admits Marcelo Bielsa departure was 'right decision' ahead of crucial Leeds United clash

Leeds will face off against a familiar face on Sunday afternoon against Brentford in the form of defender Pontus Jansson.

Jansson left Elland Road in July 2019. He was a key part of the Marcelo Bielsa side that reached the play-offs in the 2018/19 campaign, only to fall to Frank Lampard's Derby in a dramatic second leg semi final tie.

And the Swedish international reckons Leeds were right to sack their former manager Bielsa when they did.

“I think it was the right decision because they were running to an end.” Jansson told The Sun. “I respect Bielsa. He is a fantastic manager but I think they came to an end with each other.
