Leeds United handed potential boost following Richarlison flare throwing investigation

Everton forward Richarlison could be in hot water with the FA after the Brazilian threw a flare back into the Goodison Park crowd following his goal against Chelsea on Sunday. The Toffees picked up a massive three points in the race for Premier League survival, with Richarlison pouncing on a Cesar Azpilicueta mistake to fire home past Edouard Mendy in a 1-0 win for Frank Lampard's side.

However, following the goal, Richarlison tossed a flare thrown on to the pitch into the Goodison Park stands and could now face a three-match ban as the FA looks set to investigate. The FA won't review the video evidence until Tuesday. It means Richarlison could be handed a three-match ban, which would see him miss Everton's games against Leicester, Watford and Brentford.

However, he could also escape with a fine and severe warning, with the three-match ban being the maximum penalty the Brazilian could face. Should he miss those three games, it would be a massive boost for Leeds United. Richarlison has been one of Everton's best players this season, scoring eight times in the Premier League.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin lacking match fitness and Salomon Rondon finding the back of the net just once this season, Everton would be severely hinder in the event the 24-year-old is banned. A spokesperson for Everton said: "We will look into the matter but, as far we are concerned, Richarlison was attempting to throw it out of the ground."

Everton breathed life into their Premier League campaign with the win over Chelsea, which sees them pull to within two points of 17th placed Leeds. However, Frank Lampard's side have a game in hand on Leeds and still have to play Watford away this season, with the Hornets having the worst home record in the league this season.
