Leeds United supporters have sent Victor Orta a resounding summer transfer message in our latest survey.
The Whites failed to make any new additions to their squad in last month’s January window, with RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson their one and only target.
But once it became clear that Salzburg had no intention of allowing Aaronson to leave at this stage of the season, Leeds were happy to settle with the squad they currently have.
Should Leeds secure their status in the Premier League beyond this season, though, the summer transfer window is likely to be crucial if they are to push on beyond the bottom reaches of the table.
Midfield has been a position Leeds have needed to strengthen ever since they secured promotion in July 2020, however it is a different area of the field that fans think need prioritising.
From almost 3,500 responses, 52% of the fanbase think that it is more important to strengthen in attack, and more specifically the number nine role.
Last season’s 17-goal marksman Patrick Bamford has been plagued by injuries for the last five months and has made just six league appearances this season.
But in his absence, nobody has yet to really step up and make that position their own, with Daniel James, Rodrigo Moreno, Tyler Roberts and Joe Gelhardt having been handed opportunities.
Gelhardt is arguably the player who has been handed the least number of chances, with only two starts to his name, although it is a huge pressure on the 19-year-old’s shoulders given Leeds’ current predicament in the table.
Supporters, however, have also recognised the need for fresh faces in the middle of the park, with 46.9% of people saying centre midfield is the biggest priority.
Leeds have not signed a midfielder on a permanent deal since Adam Forshaw in 2018, and so the summer will certainly need at least one addition in that position.
