Leeds United fans confident they know where the blame lies for club's poor season

Jesse Marsch and Leeds United know they need to go to Brentford and take at least a point form their final game of the season to stand a chance of surviving in the Premier League. Winning the match is their best chance of survival, as if they draw but Burnley also draw against Newcastle, the Whites will be relegated on goal-difference.

The fact that Leeds will go into the final day of the season as favourites to be relegated is something that Leeds fans will not have imagined at the end of last season, when they secured a ninth place finish in their first season back in the top tier for 16 years. However, a poor summer of recruitment followed and the team started this season poorly under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine was sacked in February, after a horror run of results. Marsch looked as if he was leading the team to safety until a revival from Burnley put the club back in danger just as they faced a run of fixtures against Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea. Leeds fans have given their thoughts about where the finger of blame should be pointed, as the Whites teeter on the brink of the Championship, after Leeds Live opened up a discussion.

Here are a selection of comments, as many put the blame at the feet of Leeds' board for failing to subsequently improve the squad. However, there were some who felt the majority of blame lay elsewhere:

Clone: "We can blame players & managers but those who are to be blamed is the directors, Managers can be sacked players get sold on so they take the hint and go."

VIERA.THRILOS: "The destruction of the team has a name: Radrizzani"

Jeffers: "Most of the problems stem from the board of Directors. Victor Orta should never have been at the club, most of his signings are not up to Premier League Standard. I don’t know why he was even given a job at Elland Road with how he performed at Middlesbrough F.C"

bornracer62: "This is simple... sack the board"

Loyalty4Ever: "There's never just one thing wrong in a club when the eggs start to go rotten. Everyone could see that the team were vibrant when 1st promoted, but did they do brilliant because there were no fans creating pressure? In the Championship Bamford fluffed a few easy chances throughout the season with the crowd pressure on his shoulders, last season he was rewarded with an England cap for his efforts. I believe some in our squad believe their own hype and world beating credentials. Unfortunately it's a team game guys not a solo show. The entire squad has to bear a huge part of the blame as they are the skilled guys making in the moment decisions."

Mclaren225: "Bielsa for his one-tactic approach, which he wouldn't change and for which we were found out. The board for not pursuing signings in the summer and January transfer windows. Some of the players, for being overpaid and uncommitted to the team. 'Side before self' don't make me laugh."

TimCampbell: "I have to recall with derision the two things spouted by Kinnear and indeed Bielsa last January. We are about to be relegated and Kinnear said at the time that more senior additions would block the progress of the kids to the first team? Eh, come again! That comment hasn't aged well, nor has the one where the manager said he wasn't against signings as long as they improved the first team and what we had?"

awandrew1: "Obviously the players are to blame for this poor season! We have 11 full internationals in our ranks and they are what they are by merits of past seasons. On the current season form none of them should play for their respective countries!"
