Leeds United fans celebrate Junior Firpo's recreation of iconic Norman Hunter moment vs Man Utd

Leeds United's Junior Firpo was a first-half substitute in the Whites' 4-2 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.

The Spanish full-back replaced Robin Koch on the half-hour mark after the German international continued to struggle with a head injury sustained in a collision with Scott McTominay.

Firpo's afternoon was one of his better performances in a Leeds shirt, despite losing the ball in the build-up to Man United's third goal of the afternoon.

Over the course of 60 minutes, he created four chances for his teammates, picked up one assist and completed more passes into the penalty area than any other Leeds player.

However, it is an image following Firpo's tackle on Anthony Elanga late in the game that has gained most traction with supporters on social media.

Firpo is pictured standing over crumpled goalscorer Elanga, seemingly disconsolate with the Man United teenager's reaction to his firm challenge.

Twitter user and Leeds United supporter @OddyTSB placed the still image from Sunday's Sky Sports match coverage alongside an iconic moment depicting Leeds legend Norman Hunter engaged in a similar situation.

The picture in question shows Hunter on the verge of being booked by referee Bob Matthewson after fouling Crystal Palace's John Craven in a 1972 fixture between the two sides.

Firpo has featured 18 times for Leeds' first-team this season since joining in a permanent deal reportedly worth £13.5 million last summer.

He has been inhibited lately by a hamstring injury which kept him out of action for a month, however now appears back in contention from the start for Wednesday's trip to Anfield.

Leeds visit Liverpool on the back of two straight defeats and are winless in four matches, since the 3-2 victory over West Ham United in London last month.
