Leeds United fan's viral Twitter promise unites fan base to deliver 1,000 pizzas to foodbanks

One thousand pizzas will reach some of Leeds’ most in need families thanks to the work of one Leeds United fan.

Paddy Miller’s one throwaway tweet about the quality of Chicago Town pizzas blew up on Twitter and after hitting more than 28,000 likes it will now benefit city families in crisis.

Paddy, Chicago Town, Leeds United Supporters’ Trust and Boost Drinks have all come together in this coordinated plan which will see an average of 83 pizzas per month reaching families through Leeds Fans Foodbank for the next year.

On Sunday night, Paddy compared two dishevelled looking slices of pizza at York City on Twitter to the Chicago Town efforts he normally eats.

The pizza giant responded and a swift back and forth resulted in a promise of a year’s supply of the Italian classic if Paddy’s tweet generated more than 20,000 likes.

With the power of Leeds United’s fan base, and the club’s official Twitter account, behind him, Paddy saw off the target with ease and now Chicago Town have followed through on their promise.

Rather than take the food for himself, Paddy, with the help of LUST has arranged for the pizzas to go to foodbanks supporting all corners of the city.

Boost, one of the club’s partners, got in on the act too with an offer of cans to the foodbanks alongside the pizzas.

Paddy said: “This is brilliant from Chicago Town. Genuinely, I haven’t done anything, just some banter on Twitter escalated, but it shows how social media can be used as a positive.

“Thanks also to Boost Drinks for reaching out to supply drinks and also thanks to Leeds United Supporters’ Trust for getting involved.”

LUST said: “So Paddy Miller wins a bet with Chicago Town, ends up with 1,000 pizzas and donates them all to Leeds Fans Foodbank. Selfless!

“We can’t let that go unnoticed. We spoke to Leeds United and they would like to give you (Paddy) a signed shirt and two tickets to a game.

“We will chuck in a lifetime Trust membership.”
