The experience of last season’s Premier League survival can help Leeds United as they look to turn their form around, says Jack Harrison. The Whites have slumped to eight games without a win in the league over the last couple of months and they find themselves in the bottom three as a result.
They have the chance to climb the table and move away from danger before the World Cup break next month with games against Liverpool, Bournemouth and Tottenham to be played over the next fortnight. The last thing Leeds want is to spend the seven-week break in the relegation zone and they’ll be doing all they can to get much-needed points on the board.
Despite their struggles, Jesse Marsch’s side have performed well against top six sides Chelsea and Arsenal this season and Harrison insists the Whites will take confidence from that as they aim to pull themselves out of trouble.

“I guess it’s crunch time for us at the minute,” Harrison told TalkSPORT. “We need some results and points and what better way to do it than going against the best teams in the league and trying to take points off them. It’s a great opportunity for us, everyone’s excited for the game and ready to go.
“I think it’s a little bit different (to last season) right now. I don’t think we’re in the same position as we were at the end of last season, there’s still a lot of time left.
“It’s a similar kind of feeling, it’s so important to stick together as a group and going through that helps a little bit but it’s a little bit of a different situation and we have to deal with some different obstacles here and there. The principles are the same and we try and stick together, push each other each day to the limit and work on finding little solutions to get the results we deserve.”
Harrison started the season in fine form, picking up three assists and a goal inside Leeds’ first three Premier League games. That form led to speculation that the 25-year-old could and maybe should have been in line for a first call-up to the England squad in September.
Ultimately, he was overlooked by Gareth Southgate and with Leeds struggling for form it seems highly unlikely that he will be travelling to Qatar next month. Harrison hasn’t given up on his dream of wearing the Three Lions at some point, though.
“I think, obviously just trying to get as many points for the club as I can,” he said when asked about his personal and club goals. “In terms of personal goals it matches up with the team goals as well. If I’m doing well, the team is hopefully doing well as well. Trying to get as many goals and assists as possible.
“I’ve got England, in the future I want to try and make it to the national team. It’s been a bit of a rough patch at the minute but I’ve still got that goal in mind and I’m pushing for that. With the team hopefully we can get as points as we can before the international break and then see where we are and try to finish as high up the table as we can.”
