Leeds United enjoy quadruple clean sweep as women's team kick off new season with win

It was a successful weekend for Leeds United. Not only did the first-team thrash Chelsea 3-0 in a memorable afternoon at Elland Road, but there were also wins for the women's team, the under-21s side and the under-18s.

The weekend started with the Whites under-21s beating Aston Villa on Friday evening, and it ended with victories for Jesse Marsch's side and the women's team on Sunday afternoon.

Women's team

Leeds won on the opening day of the 2022/23 FA Women’s National League Division One North season. The Whites beat Hull City Ladies 1-0 thanks to a fine individual goal from Olivia Smart.

It was an impressive start to the campaign for Rick Passmoor's side, with Hull predicted to be one of the teams challenging towards the top end of the division. Leeds travel to Barnsley for another Yorkshire derby on Sunday, with kick-off at 2pm.

Under-18s

The Whites under-18s beat Liverpool 2-1 at Thorp Arch on Saturday. Leeds bounced back in their second fixture of the season after losing 4-3 at Stoke City on the opening day.

The game was goalless at half-time, but two quickfire goals shortly after the break from Max McFadden and Charlie Crew put the Whites into a commanding position. Ben Doak pulled a goal back for Liverpool, but Leeds registered their first win of the season with a game at Nottingham Forest on Saturday their next test.

Under-21s

Just like the first-team, Leeds under-21s are unbeaten in their first three league fixtures after beating Aston Villa at Bodymoor Heath on Friday evening. The win saw the Whites climb up to second in the Premier League 2 Division 2 table.

Leeds gave minutes to Darko Gyabi, Archie Gray and Mateo Joseph, but it was summer addition Sonny Perkins who stole the headlines. The former West Ham forward scored a brace against Villa to give Leeds the win.

Perkins scored either side of a Josh Feeney goal as the Whites continued their impressive start to the campaign.
