Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell's summer with England's under-21s side isn't over yet after the Young Lions saw off Portugal in the quarter-finals of the European U21s Championship in Georgia.
Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon struck a 34th-minute winner to seal a semi-final berth for Lee Carsley's side, with Whites centre-back Cresswell an unused substitute. The win means that England have reached the last-four for the first time since 2017 as they look to replicate their 1984 tournament win.
Cresswell, who impressed in his only tournament action so far when he played all 90 minutes of the final group stage match which saw Germany beaten 2-0, will be hoping to stake a claim for a place in the line-up when England take on Israel on Wednesday.
There was no such luck for Cresswell's Elland Road teammate Illan Meslier, who was forced to watch from the bench again as France lost their quarter-final 3-1 to Ukraine. France's exit and Meslier's failure to play any minutes at the tournament marked the end of a disappointing climax to the season which also saw him dropped by former Leeds boss Sam Allardyce for the Premier League run-in.

While the majority of the Leeds squad will return for the start of pre-season training today, Meslier is now expected to have a short break before reporting for duty again, with the 23-year-old one of several players with an unclear future at the club.
Cresswell, meanwhile, will see his Leeds return delayed again. After a successful Championship loan stint at Millwall last season, the Thorp Arch graduate will no doubt be hoping to establish himself in the Whites first-team picture for the club's hopeful promotion push.
