Leeds United defender Robin Koch gives ‘one simple reason’ why Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is Premier League’s best

Robin Koch has given ‘one simple reason’ why Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne are the two best players in the Premier League.

The Leeds United defender picked out the Reds star alongside De Bruyne as the best player he has played against during his two seasons in the top-flight, for the ‘simple reason’ that they are ‘brutally difficult’ to face.

Liverpool and Salah have enjoyed plenty of success against the Whites since they were promoted in 2020, kicking off the 2020/2021 season with a thrilling 4-3 win in which the Egyptian scored a hat-trick. Last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side won both fixtures with an aggregate score of 9-0 - Salah scoring three of those nine - and German international Koch has given his verdict on the Reds talisman.

“If I had to pick two, I would name Salah and de Bruyne,” Koch told Bild when asked for the best player in the league. “For one simple reason: they are brutally difficult to defend against, they make life difficult for you as a defender every second.”

The 26-year-old has been in some unenviable positions against Liverpool, making his Leeds debut during the seven-goal opening-day thriller and conceding a penalty via handball. He was injured for both of last season’s wins as the Yorkshire club flirted with relegation, surviving on the final day and losing Marcelo Bielsa.

Salah and his Reds teammates will have another chance to give Koch nightmares at the end of October when they host them on Merseyside. But American coach Jesse Marsch has had a taste of the relentless Anfield atmosphere, having lost 4-3 in the 2019 Champions League in charge of an RB Salzburg side that included Erling Haaland, Takumi Minamino and Patson Daka.
