Leeds United defender named in Denmark squad for upcoming Qatar World Cup

Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen has been named in Denmark's final 26-man squad for the World Cup this month. Kristensen is the first Leeds player whose place in Qatar is now officially confirmed with a number of others having so far only made provisional squads respectively.

Uncapped defender Pascal Struijk has been named in Netherlands' 39-man squad, while both Diego Llorente and Rodrigo Moreno are believed to have made Spain's 55-man squad and USMNT duo Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson look dead certs to be involved. Kristensen could be set to play a key role for what many people view as the tournament's dark horse Denmark based on his recent involvement at the Nations League.

The 25-year-old featured in all of Denmark's six matches in the competition, including three starts in the two wins over Austria and most recent home victory against France, who incidentally, are in the same group at the World Cup. Qatar will be the first major international tournament of Kristensen's career, as he did not feature at last summer's EUROs when Denmark reached the semi-finals.

Joachim Andersen, Mathias Jensen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Christian Eriksen and Mikkel Damsgaard are the other five Premier League players to have been named in the Denmark squad. The aforementioned France, Tunisia and Australia are the sides Denmark will be competing with in Group D for a place in the last-16.

Kristensen has been a regular at Leeds so far this season following his move from Red Bull Salzburg during the window. He has started 11 of the Whites' 13 Premier League matches and has slowly but surely started to get to grips with the pace of English football.
