Leeds United’s Instagram account posted a team photo of heroic volunteers after they completed a mammoth 127-mile bike ride to raise money for ex-player Stacey Daniel.
Three years ago, Daniel - who helped Leeds Women reach the top flight in 2001 - was rocked with news she had been diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS), a progressive neurological disease that affects the central nervous system.
The 40-year-old is raising funds to receive life-changing stem cell treatment in Mexico, with almost half of her £50,000 target being raised so far.
The latest charity event saw Daniel and a host of former professionals - including ex-England international Sue Smith and former Leeds United academy welfare officer Lucy Ward - cycle from Anfield to Elland Road in a bid to raise cash.
Speaking about her illness on her Go Fund Me page, Daniel said: “My MS has become very active and aggressive."
"Walking 50 metres I lose the ability to walk properly and I’m constantly tripping over and losing my balance.
“I have to sit down to put my underwear/socks on, I struggle all the time with the back of my bras, with zips, buttons, washing, doing my hair, climbing the stairs, climbing into and out of the bath, holding cutlery, a pen, a glass and brushing my teeth.
“I experience severe fatigue. The list is endless.”
