Ian Poveda has joined Blackpool on loan for the rest of the season after failing to force his way into Jesse Marsch’s plans at Leeds United. The 22-year-old’s contract at Elland Road expires in 2024 and the Whites will have the chance to recall him in January if they wish.
The former Manchester City winger has struggled to make an impression with Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa or Marsch since his arrival in January 2020. There were four appearances after the Covid-enforced pause in 2019/20 and another 16 with the first team during 2020/21.
However, the winger was considered surplus to requirements last summer by Bielsa and he was shipped out to Blackburn Rovers, where he was beginning to assert himself until injury ruled him out for several months from November 2021.

“I’m really happy to join a great club,” Poveda told Blackpool’s website. “The manager and the directors have put confidence in me and I want to give back to the fans with good performances and displays on the pitch.
“It’s a really important stage in my career and I’m excited to get started.”
Michael Appleton said: “I’m delighted to bring Ian to the club. He’s clearly an exciting talent and we’re really looking forward to working with him.
“He has fantastic feet, adds pace and is very direct. I’m sure he’ll be a fans’ favourite very, very quickly.”
