Left-back option Liam McCarron has departed Leeds United for Championship Stoke City to sign a three-year contract after the clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old departs Elland Road with a priceless Premier League appearance to his name.
The Scotland youth international has been a mainstay in the under-23s since arriving from Carlisle United for an undisclosed fee in July 2019. Initially deployed as a winger, McCarron shuffled back in position across the past couple of seasons.
McCarron found himself playing left-back under Carlos Corberan and Mark Jackson and that role frequently put him on Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team benches. When injuries or suspensions took hold, McCarron quickly rose into the matchday 20 because of a dearth in the left-back department.

He was one of those to benefit from the December crisis which ravaged the senior squad. Injuries, suspensions and Covid left Leeds with a threadbare unit on the night Arsenal visited Elland Road.
McCarron would make his one and only senior appearance from the bench in the 81st minute for Crysencio Summerville. McCarron only signed a new contract with Leeds last September, but with opportunities at a premium, he now has a chance in the second tier.
