Leeds United closing in on supercomputer prediction as survival race heats up

Leeds United need just five more points to equal a supercomputer prediction that would ensure Premier League survival. FiveThirtyEight’s supercomputer - which uses statistical information and detailed data analysis to calculate how the Premier League table will finish in May - thinks the Whites will finish on 38 points this season.

The Whites are currently on 33 points with six games of the season still to play. The prediction means Leeds would pick up one more win and two draws from games against Crystal Palace, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford.

Burnley became the first side to crack under the pressure as they axed long serving boss Sean Dyche earlier this week. The Clarets are three points adrift from safety, having played a game more than Everton who are sat above them in the table, but one game less than Leeds United.

Frank Lampard's side are predicted to finish on 36 points in 17th place, with Burnley, Watford and Norwich the three sides expected to go down. The Canaries are tipped to finish rock bottom on 26 points, Roy Hodgson's Watford in 19th on 27 points and Burnley in 18th on 33 points.

The battle for survival is expected to go right to the wire and the relegation picture could have changed once more by the time Leeds play next. Both Burnley and Everton will have played their games in hand by the time Marsch's side take on Palace at Selhurst Park.
