Pat Nevin has compared Jesse Marsch's ability to deflect media focus away from his own players to former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho was a master at shouldering the burden, while his players focused on competing for silverware season after season. Although Marsch has never referred to himself as 'the special one', he has made blatant attempts to steer the eyes of the media away from his players.
That is something which Nevin has acknowledged and the ex-Chelsea winger has commended Marsch for taking the stick amid Leeds' recent drop in form.
"You look back at the history of the Premier League and there's been managers that have taken all the pressure because all of the eyes have been on them. And they've known when to do it," Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"I remember when Jose Mourinho used to be absolutely phenomenal at that. No one was talking about the players, everyone was talking about him. Problem is, you can go too far over the top with that, and that can start to annoy the players.
"As long as he [Marsch] knows where to draw the line. I tend to think when there are difficulties, he will take the stick, and when there's good times, he'll let the players enjoy that moment in the sun, and that's the way to do it."
Marsch has become known for his fiery outbursts, especially during the opening exchanges of this season. His spat with Bruno Lage in the opening day victory over Wolves was followed by a touchline outburst in September's 5-2 defeat at Brentford, which ultimately resulted in him receiving his early marching orders.
Leeds have struggled to translate performances into results of late and have now gone six league matches without a victory. Their latest defeat at Arsenal has left them just one-point above the drop zone, albeit with a game in hand over the five teams directly below them.
