Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch already proven right about Brenden Aaronson after pre-season claim

There was plenty made of the players Leeds United opted to sign this summer to replace the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha at Elland Road.

One of those players who has really impressed so far for the Whites has been former Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson, who worked under Leeds boss Jesse Marsch during their time together in Austria.

Aaronson has brought an abundance of energy and technical quality to Leeds since his arrival at Elland Road.

Perhaps the best example of the American's relentless pressing was during Leeds 3-0 win over Chelsea, which saw Aaronson force Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy into making a horrendous error that led to the former bagging his first goal in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has started in every Premier League game this season for Leeds this term, and has been one of their most important players. But of course, Aaronson's quality was nothing unfamiliar to Marsch, who tipped him to become a big player for the Whites this summer in pre-season following his summer Salzburg move.

"Brenden is obviously a very hard worker and he covers a lot of ground in matches," Marsch said of Aaronson back in pre-season following Leeds 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in Australia. "He's a very intelligent player so he understands tactically what we're trying to achieve with and against the ball.

"It's about continuing to add the last actions with assists and goals and but I know him and I know his cleverness and intelligence and quality. I think that will come more and more, and it's good for him, I think, to be in this match today and to see the level of physicality to see the speed of play, and to adjust.

"I'll say this when he first came to Salzburg, the first training session, I thought: ‘he's in over his head here. He's going to have to adjust to all of the level of what's happening’.

"Within two weeks, he was almost our best player and so that's the quality he has. Because of intelligence, because of his desire, because of his hard work, he's able to apply his talents rather quickly and adapt and grow. So we'll need that again."
