Leeds takeaway 'gutted' after coming last in BBC Britain's Top Takeaways show

Leeds noodle aficionados Walter and Gheorghe failed to impress on BBC Two cooking show Britain's Top Takeaways, coming joint last out of all five takeaways who appeared.

The pair's "disappointment" was caught on national television tonight (May 19) after showcasing dishes from their menu in Noodlesta, based in Blenheim Terrace, opposite the Parkinson Building. Owner Walter and head chef Gheorghe battled it out with their trademark hand pulled noodles but ultimately left red faced.

The competition consisted of each noodle takeaway duo making three dishes, in three separate rounds. These were delivered to people in Manchester who would rate each dish on a scale of one to five, with five being the highest ranking.

The final round is awarded double points. The Noodlesta pair tied last with a total of 18 points.

Speaking of his abject failure, Walter said: "Obviously, we feel a bit disappointed but nonetheless, I’m overwhelmed just to be here in the top five."

Walter has been in the restaurant industry for five years, according to the BBC show, and owns three restaurants in total. Gheorghe could be seen slinging around the noodle dough, “I’m very very very competitive,” he said.

Even though ultimately they came bottom, their first dish, an egg and tofu special impressed diners, coming second with four points in the first round.

The other takeaways in the show were Sumo Pan Asian, from Beverley, East Yorkshire, Ramen Dayo , Newcastle; Ikigai Ramen , Edinburgh and Bangkok Express , Swansea.
