Leeds shoppers fear 'ghost shopping centre' after shops pull out

Trinity Leeds will be losing two Victoria's Secret stores as they announce plans to close down, sparking fears of a 'ghost shopping centre'.

Victoria’s Secret and the Victoria's Secret Pink shop next-door will both be closing down on January 14. This has sparked criticism from across the city as many raise concerns over the move.

One resident, Sophie Harding, wrote: "It’s gonna be a ghost shopping centre, Victoria’s secret had its store literally MADE for it and was a pull factor for girls nearby to travel to Leeds, always had to go for a visit there every time."

Nichola Byrne also shared her concerns and said: "Leeds Is loosing its place on the map and with it jobs and money coming into the City, sad to see!"

Others blamed Leeds City Council, saying the lack of access to Leeds City Centre was becoming a problem for many who want to shop in the city. David Neal wrote: "When is Leeds council going to help shops in Leeds, at this rate they will be nothing left, Help needed no one can get into Leeds, stop sending millions on cycle lanes and get people back into the city shops free parking ext."

Paul Milner shared similar sentiments: "This is great news just what the council wanted when they wanted to make Leeds City centre green .... congrats soon be a large park."

This comes amid fears of Leeds becoming a "three day city" with footfall plummeting at the start of the week compared with pre-pandemic levels.
