Leeds Rhinos star fined after being charged by Match Review Panel

Leeds Rhinos loose forward Cameron Smith has been hit with a £250 for a Grade B Dangerous Contact during last Friday's home win over Wakefield Trinity. The homegrown star has copped the punishment for a late hit on a kicker in the 59th minute of the Rhinos' 26-0 home win.

The Match Review Panel's notes on the incident state: "A defending player makes contact with an opponent after the ball has been released by an opponent in a vulnerable position which causes flexion to the head, neck or spinal column on an attacking player, which poses an unacceptable risk of injury to that player."

Thankfully for Leeds, Smith has not been suspended and is free to play in Thursday's derby at Castleford Tigers, his hometown club. He could line up against his brother, Daniel, who plays as prop for the Tigers. There have been no bans across Super League this week, though six players have received fines. As well as Smith, Manu Ma'u, Joe Westerman, Ben Currie, Josh Griffin and Jack Brown have all been handed £250 fines for Grade B offences.
