Leeds Rhinos injury latest with Zak Hardaker set to join key returnees for Salford Red Devils clash

Zak Hardaker could make his second debut for Leeds Rhinos in Sunday’s trip to Salford Red Devils after been given the all-clear to resume training. Hardaker’s return to Headingley took a dramatic twist recently when suffered a suspected seizure and subsequently missed the home win against Hull Kingston Rovers.

The 30-year-old full-back made an abrupt exit from Wigan Warriors last month and recently penned a short-team deal at Leeds, where he made his name and won three Super League titles. He could now feature at the AJ Bell Stadium as new Leeds head coach Rohan Smith takes charge of his first game.

The Rhinos said in a statement: “Leeds Rhinos are pleased to confirm that Zak Hardaker has been given the relevant specialist clearance to return to training and hopes to be available for selection in the near future.”

Liam Sutcliffe (knee), Alex Mellor (sternum), Corey Johnson (knee), Richie Myler (groin), David Fusitu’a (knee) and Tom Holroyd (ankle) have all now completed rehabilitation periods. Leeds say they will all return to team training with a view to being available for selection.

Jack Walker and Harry Newman (both lower limb) are progressing well with the medical and performance staff, both expected to return to full team training in early June. After further specialist advice Aidan Sezer (groin) is continuing his rehabilitation and is likely to return to team training within the next four weeks.

Tom Briscoe has now had surgery on a high ankle sprain suffered in the round 10 clash against Toulouse, which will require a 10-12 week period of rehabilitation.
