Leeds Rhinos face nervy wait over Jack Walker as fullback awaits scan results

Leeds Rhinos full-back Jack Walker will undergo scans following a hamstring injury sustained during Thursday’s dramatic 20-20 draw at home to Huddersfield Giants. Walker was helped off the field in clear discomfort during the first half of the game in another injury setback to the homegrown star.

Leeds travel to Castleford Tigers on Easter Monday but will be without 22-year-old Walker, meaning Liam Sutcliffe will deputise at full-back. “We’ve talked about how we miss Richie Myler and how important the full-back role is, but Jack looks to have a pretty significant twang on his hamstring,” interim head coach Jamie Jones-Buchanan said.

“We’ll have to scan that in the next couple of days. Typically it’s Bank Holiday and nobody is open, but we’ll do our best to kick a door down and find out what’s wrong with him.

“I’m just really trying to articulate to him that it’s really important he keeps his head up and keeps positive. He’s done some wonderful work for us in a really difficult period – he’s run his blood to water after being through the mire with injuries in recent years.

“Liam Sutcliffe is a more than capable full-back – he’s exceptional with the ball in his hand and it doesn’t take too much away from his game. We’ll do a lot of work with him and if it means maybe Kruise (Leeming) or others, hopefully when we get Aidan Sezer back in, will tuck in at half.

“We’ll keep scrapping because that’s the situation and we’ll deal with it.”
