Leeds Rhinos cool David Fusitu'a future speculation after NRL links

Leeds Rhinos have made no plans to move David Fusitu'a on despite reports emerging that he is eyeing up a return to the NRL. An article down under claimed Fusitu'a was seeking a return down under after an unhappy spell at Headingley, one that has seen him make just 14 appearances during his first 12 months at the club.

Fusitu'a is under contract for the current season though NRL rules mean he is now free to negotiate a return to the competition next year, as opposed to the Super League rulings which mean he can't discuss terms until May 1st. However, sources have told Rugby League Live that there are no issues between the club and the player and that there are no plans for him to leave any time soon.

It's worth noting that Fusitu'a, who withdrew from last weekend's game with Leigh Leopards through illness, was in attendance at the club's media day and was part of the team photo. He was interviewed by multiple outlets during the afternoon and appeared in good spirits.

Meanwhile, the Mole, who first reported the story, clarified hours later that Fusitu'a was committed to the club for the season. He tweeted: "Fusitu'a's manager has tole me he intends to see out his deal this year.

Inevitably, Leeds will be keen to see him on the field more often in 2023 after an injury-hit debut year, which followed on from his final years in the NRL. It's hoped that he will be fit to play in Sunday's pre-season clash with Bradford Bulls at Headingley. As for the long-term no decision is thought to have been made from Leeds' side regarding his future at the club, with his performances in the opening months likely to determine the club's stance moving forward.
