A survey of Leeds residents has shown that the majority of people do not feel safe in the city centre at night and most people are not proud of the centre either.
According to a Leeds Live survey on the state of Leeds City Centre, 143 out of 206 respondents do not feel safe in the city centre at night. This comes out to 69% meaning only 31% do feel safe.
As a result, many have also said they do not feel proud of the city centre. A total of 67% said they were not proud.

However, the results of the survey do show a number of improvements that could be made to change people's minds. For example, when asked what the biggest problem with Leeds city centre was, 41% said it was the lack of free parking.
A further 22% said the biggest issue was that they didn't feel safe, while 19% said the biggest issue was the lack of shops. Then, 42% said better and cheaper parking options would convince them to visit the centre more often.
Another 24% said a better range of shops would convince them and 21% felt a safer feeling environment was needed. When asked what things the centre needs more of, 45% said it needed more independent retailers and 27% said it needed more department stores.
However, as it stands 36% of people say they only visit the city centre once a month. Just 27% visit weekly and only 19% visit daily and 17% do not visit the centre at all.
The final question in the survey asked people if they thought Leeds had the best centre in Yorkshire, 63% of people said it did not.
