Leeds pub open for 200 years has starring role in new Netflix film Bank of Dave

A historic Leeds pub is featuring in a new Netflix film, Bank Of Dave.

The Duck and Drake, based in Kirkgate, has been serving for over two centuries and has been inundated with five star Trip Advisor views. The "great bar" and "hidden gem" shut back in March 2022 to allow filming for new film Bank of Dave.

Now available to watch, the film has been topping streaming service charts recently. The Duck and Drake is used as the set of a local boozer loved by a self-made billionaire.

The film tells the story of Dave Fishwick who fought to set up a community bank in his hometown Burnley, Lancashire, to improve the lives of those who live there following the 2008 financial crisis. Starring Rory Kinnear and Phoebe Dynevor, it delves into how Dave, who left school with no qualifications, fought London's elite financial institutions.

While producers have of course polished and added elements to the Netflix hit to make it more entertaining, the business does exist in real life. BSAL opened its doors in 2011 and was Dave's response to what he perceived as a broken banking system.

Dave fought for the community bank to help local businesses in Burley after the 2008 credit crunch. Dave is seen organising his first bank loans at the Duck and Dry during one of the scenes.

The pub was formerly called The Horse and Groom and The Brougham's Arms. During World War Two the pub had a reputation for being a hub for women meeting American soldiers. The Duck and Dry has now become a tourist attraction since the film came out on January 16.

Bank of Dave is now available to watch on Netflix.
