A major fire that tore through a derelict pub in Leeds on Friday is understood have been started deliberately, police have confirmed.
West Yorkshire Police (WYP) have recorded an offence of arson after the empty Sun Hotel was torched last night. Firefighters raced to the scene in Church Street, Hunslet, at around 9.30pm and police shut the road as crews tackled the flames.
The fire was quickly brought under control but has caused huge damage to the former pub.

WYP are now appealing for information and are keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area shortly before the fire. A spokesperson for the force said: "Police have recorded an offence of arson following a fire at a derelict building in the Hunslet area of Leeds.
"Officers were made aware of a building fire on Church Street, Hunslet, shortly before 9.30pm yesterday (Friday, 10 June). If anyone has any information about this offence, or saw anyone behaving suspiciously, they are asked to contact police using 101 Live Chat or by calling 101, quoting crime reference 13220314266."
