Leeds neighbourhood rated 'one of the worst places to live' in the country

The suburban town Garforth has been rated as one of the worst places to live, not just in Leeds but the entire country.

Garrington Property Finders conducted a report that ranked different areas by their 'natural beauty, quality of life, architectural beauty, green ranking and price band'.

Out of 1,372 places on the list, Garforth came in at number 1,307, only 65 places from being at the very bottom, but it's not clear if many in Garforth or even across Leeds would agree with Garrington's 'rankings'.

Shockingly, the report shows that the town has fallen 50 places in the ranking from last year when it was placed 1,257 on the list.

The Leeds neighbourhood was ranked low in the report for its natural beauty which scored 1,228, architectural beauty scoring 1,200 and quality of life scoring 1,083.

In the report, it showed that the average family home in the area cost between £350,000 and £650,000 which according to ONS is above the average UK house price which was £274,000 of January 2022.

In the report, Garrington stated that activity in the property market remains 'brisk' as buyers are searching for the perfect location that offers everything they are looking for.

They wrote: "More space, somewhere comfortable to work and a better standard of life continue to be cited as top requirements on many buyers’ wish lists.

"With millions of people keen to continue working remotely at least some of the time, many are reassessing what they want from their home – and this shift is transforming Britain’s property market for good."

The report continued to say that there have been around 630,000 home moves in the last year with a greater emphasis on 'green credentials' when choosing a location.

However, it's questionable how many of those moves were to Garforth as data from the last census in 2011 shows that the population was 14,957 which had decreased from the last census.

Although Bath took the top spot for the second year in a row, we think Garforth has plenty to offer and deserved more than 1307 on the list.

There's plenty to do in the town for kids such as Monkey Maze, Kidzone Play Centre and Clip n'Climb.

10 minutes down the road is Lotherton, a stunning Edwardian house and country estate with gardens which also has activities for the children such as playgrounds and even a Wildlife World zoo.
