A Leeds woman who was left homeless after being shunned in Kenya has finally returned home - thanks to kind strangers who “saved her life.”
Earlier this year, Peris Newlove vowed she wouldn’t rest until her mum Rose was back home in Leeds after finding herself in a bad way.
Rose had returned to her native country in east Africa in 2019 with one suitcase and just enough money for her plane ticket.

She had hoped to live on her grandad's farm, but Peris claims her mum was shunned out there because of her lack of cash. This led to Rose relying on kind strangers and meant she was left without shelter.
In addition to this, Rose, who had surgery after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer and now requires life-long medication, ran out of the prescribed medication and was coughing up blood.
It was previously reported by LeedsLive that Peris said: "This is a very difficult time for me as my mother Rose decided to go back to Kenya but she has found herself in a bad way. She is homeless, has no food, no shelter and can only contact me through her phone when she is able to get help from strangers."
After setting up a fundraising page on GoFundMe, Peris managed to raise enough money to help bring her mum back home after three years of her being stuck in Kenya.
She landed back in England on Wednesday (October 19) and has finally reunited with her daughters and two grandchildren who she hadn’t met in person including Peris’s daughter who turns one this weekend.
“I’m really happy because it was just a really stressful time but now she’s here,” Peris continued. “She’s grateful, she’s really happy to be back with her daughters.
“It was a very rough time being homeless out there, she’s happy to be back home. If all those people didn’t help then she would still be out there still. It’s amazing how good people are, it restores your faith in humanity especially with the way things are sometimes.
“It shows that people are still willing to help strangers, they don’t have to but they choose to, it's really nice. My message to people is never be afraid to ask for help when you need it. There’s always someone out there willing to help.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed to getting my mum back home, she’s home now and she’s safe and sound because of the strangers' donations. They saved my mum's life and she’s finally come home to see her grandchildren that she never got to. It’s amazing because people have saved her life by contributing to this.”
