Leeds' most dangerous streets mapped with the highest level of violent crime

As the biggest city in Yorkshire, Leeds sees a fair amount of crime.

Police.uk provides crime statistics across the country, breaking every area down by how many crimes were reported there every month. The latest available data provides street-level crime statistics for March 2023.

Over the past year, Leeds East has seen the most violent and sexual offences, which accounted for 40.8% of all crime in the area from April 2022 to March 2023. But the single street with the most violent or sexual offences reported on or near it in March 2023 is perhaps unsurprisingly one of Leeds's busiest city centre streets.

27 violent or sexual offences were recorded on Duncan Street, which runs between Briggate and New Market Street, in March 2023. There were also 39 other crimes reported on Duncan Street in March 2023 alone.

Violent and sexual offences April 2022 to March 2023:

  • Leeds East: 12,950 - 40.8% of all crime in the area
  • Leeds North East: 4,847 - 40.5% of all crime in the area
  • Leeds West: 9,593 - 40.4% of all crime in the area
  • Leeds South: 10,625 - 39.2% of all crime in the area
  • Leeds North West: 5,625 - 38.4% of all crime in the area
  • Leeds City: 4.214 - 27.9% of all crime in the area

Leeds South

Crime in Leeds South (police.uk)

Leeds South recorded 2,509 crimes during March 2023. The largest hotspot for these focuses around the Beeston and Hunslet areas.

945 of the total crimes in Leeds South in March were violent and sexual offences, and 316 were public order offences. 207 were criminal damage and arson and 1,041 were other crimes.

The highest incidence of crime on or near a single street in March 2023 was Millshaw Road near from White Rose, with 83 crimes. It is perhaps reflected in the location that 54 of the offences reported there were shoplifting ones.

Nine were violent and sexual offences, four were public order offences and 16 were other crimes. Elsewhere, 20 crimes were recorded on or near Belvedere Avenue, 19 by Arthington Grove and 18 by Arthington View.

Leeds East

Crimes in Leeds East (police.uk)

Leeds East recorded 2,436 crimes in March 2023. Many of these were concentrated around the area near the A64.

1,037 of those were violent and sexual offences, while 291 were public order offences. Criminal damage and arson offences make up 221 of those and the rest were other crimes.

The part of Leeds East with the highest incidence of crime in March 2023 was Beech Walk, near Gipton, with 20 crimes. 11 of those were violent and sexual offences, four public order offences, three criminal damage and arson and two other crimes.

After that, there were 17 crimes recorded on Chapman Street, and 16 on both Selby Road and Whinmoor Way.

Leeds West

There were 2,123 crimes recorded in Leeds West in March 2023. According to hotspots highlighted on the police.uk crime map, 651 of these were recorded in the Armley area.

In the whole of Leeds West during March, there were 831 violent and sexual offences recorded, and 238 public order offences. there was 199 criminal damage and arson crimes recorded and 855 other crimes.

The highest incidence of crime in March 2023 on or near a single street was 14. 14 crimes were recorded on or near South End Terrace in the Bramley/Stanningley area in March.

Six of these were violent and sexual offences, and four were public order offences. Two were other theft crimes and two are marked as 'other crimes'.

Bawn Drive, Clyde View, near Pudsey Bus Station, and Raynville Close also recorded 13 crimes on or near them in March 2023.

Leeds City

Leeds City crimes (police.uk)

Police.uk records 1,347 crimes in the Leeds City area during March 2023. 388 of those were violent and sexual offences, 186 were shoplifting, 149 were public order offences and the rest were other crimes.

The highest incidence of crime in March 2023 on or near a single street was 66 offences for Duncan Street (runs between Briggate and New Market Street). 27 of these were violent and sexual offences, seven were public order offences, six were other theft crimes and 26 were other crimes.

There were also 31 offences recorded on Central Road, Merrion Way and Mill Hill, 21 offences recorded on Call Lane and 36 on or near Lower Basinghall Street. Pitfall Street racked up 25 crimes, and Sidney Street 30.

Leeds North West

Crimes in Leeds North West (police.uk)

Leeds North West recorded 1,265 crimes in March 2023, with the biggest hotspot in the Headingley and Hyde Park area. 521 of the total crimes in March were violent and sexual offences, 145 were public order offences, 94 were other theft crimes and the rest are marked as other crimes.

The Leeds North West single street with the highest incidence of crime that month on or near it was Holt Way with 20 crimes. Seven of these were shoplifting offences, seven were violent and sexual offences, three were public order offences and three were other crimes.

Leeds North East

There were 951 crimes recorded in Leeds North East during March 2023. The largest concentration of these is around Chapeltown, Oakwood and Scott Hall Road.

There were 398 violent and sexual offences, and 97 public order offences. There were 80 shoplifting offences and 376 other crimes.

The highest incidence of crime on or near a single street in March 2023 in Leeds North East was Carr Lane off the A58 with 28 crimes. 24 of these were violent and sexual offences, two were public order offences, one was criminal damage and arson and one was another crime.

There were 16 crimes recorded in Gordon Drive and 15 in Rudgate Green.
