Leeds Met Office weather forecast for Friday as meteorologist explains sudden change in conditions

Leeds is set for a cloudy and rainy Friday with only some brief sunshine in the morning.

The sun will briefly peak through the clouds at around 7am in Leeds today before disappearing again. The rest of the morning will remain cloudy before changing to light rain by lunchtime.

It is then expected to rain for the rest of the day with heavy rain forecast for 10pm. Temperatures are set to reach 12C today.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: "The reason it [the weather] is turning more unsettled is because high pressure to the north of Scotland which has kept things fairly static over the last few days is migrating to Greenland and that's allowing some instability, some low pressure to move in from the south and the south-east.

"This weather front across northern England will mark the boundary between the clear skies as we start Friday in the north. Cloudier conditions further south and some more persistent rain moving into the Midlands, East Anglia and the south-east first thing before pushing into Wales and the south-west by the end of the afternoon."

He added: "Showers then replace the rain through central parts, some heavy downfalls but also some sunshine in-between. You'll notice the change in temperatures, however, 11C to 13C with the help of that cloud. Temperatures further north, higher."
