Leeds men 'earn £10,000 more than women' on average in a year

Across the UK, the average (median) salary for someone in full time work is £33,000 per year. That's the equivalent of £640 per week. The figures are from the latest available data from the Office for National Statistics ( ONS ).

However, figures show that in Leeds, salaries are above the national average. The average salary in Leeds is £37,079, according to figures published by the ONS for 2022. Between 2021 and 2022, average salaries grew by £1,183.

There is also a gap between the average salary of a male and a female. In Leeds, ONS statistics show that the average male salary is £41,050 and the average female salary is £31,006. Leeds is the highest salary area in West Yorkshire.

Gross average salary is calculated for people in full-time employment where the employee has been in the same job for 12 months or longer.

The average weekly hours worked in Leeds is currently 38.5 hours. The average male works 39 hours per week and the average female works 37.2 hours per week - a 2.1-hour difference.
