Leeds manager twist as Nottingham Forest relegation rivals 'close' to shock appointment

It looks all set to change again at Leeds United as they make a late attempt to save themselves from relegation.

Nottingham Forest’s relegation rivals are set to replace interim manager Javi Gracia with Sam Allardyce for their final four games of the campaign, according to multiple reports. It brings to an end a stint of just over two months for Gracia at Elland Road.

During that time the former Watford boss has won three, drawn two and lost six of his 11 matches in charge. The Whites have lost five of their last six games.

The club currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League table. A 4-1 loss at Bournemouth on Sunday meant they stayed on the same points as Forest, with the two leapfrogged by Leicester City after their draw with Everton on Monday night.

Forest, Leicester and Leeds all sit on 30 points, although the latter two are above Forest on goal difference. It now seems Leeds are trying one last throw of the dice.

It is said that former England manager Allardyce is in talks with the club about taking over for the final four games. The 68-year-old has been out of work since leaving West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2021.

Allardyce was relegated from the Premier League with the Baggies, the first relegation on his CV. He has previously been appointed to a number of roles for teams looking to survive relegation.

Leeds have confirmed that they have taken the decision to part ways with director of football Victor Orta. Reports claim the Spaniard disagreed with the board over the future of Gracia.

Leeds take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in their next outing. The Whites also host Newcastle, travel to West Ham and welcome Tottenham in their final games of the season.
