Leeds Gogglebox sisters slammed on social media for 'disgusting' #MeToo joke

A pair of sisters from Leeds appearing on the latest series of Gogglebox have been branded 'disgusting' by fans of the show.

Viewers have urged Channel 4 bosses to axe Ellie Warner and her sibling Izzi after making a controversial joke about the #MeToo movement.

In last night's episode (September 21), Ellie revealed she had played a game of tag based on the global movement.

But instead of the tradition 'tag' tap, participants had to grab the women's boobs or bums - in reference to assaults suffered by victims who had spoken out.

The joke did not go down well with Gogglebox viewers (Channel 4)

She said: "I played Tag not so long ago... but we called it #MeToo and basically we had to chase each other and either grab somebody's boob or bum.

"And they were then it."

Her sister Izzi scolded her over the comment, saying: "I don't think you are supposed to make a game out of the #MeToo."

Viewers were furious about Ellie's remarks and flocked to  Twitter  to demand Channel 4 bosses take action.

One wrote: "Those sisters are disgusting. One... makes a grab a boob game out of the Me Too Movement.

"They should be pulled off-air. I don’t offend easily to those two are vile.”

Another tweeted: "Making a game out of the Me Too movement??? Hmmm... I mean why would you even admit to doing such a stupid thing?"

The Me Too movement started in October 2017 as a hashtag on social media in a bid to shine a light on sexual assault and harassment.

It was heavily connected to the Harvey Weinstein scandal which rocked Hollywood and the cause was backed by a number of high-profile stars including Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd.
