Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams insists that the team have "complete confidence" in Patrick Bamford after his penalty miss in the defeat against Arsenal.
Bamford was thrown into the action after the break at the expense of Rodrigo and was at the heart of the drama. He was a major influence on Leeds' dominant second half performance and had a goal disallowed within minutes of entering the fold.
Marc Roca launched a bending cross to the back post, which Jack Harrison met with a tenacious run in front of Takehiro Tomiyasu. Bamford watched the ball drop from the sky, whilst simultaneously leaning into Gabriel. He then cushioned the ball down, before lifting an emphatic finish over Aaron Ramsdale.
Indeed, Bamford obstructed Gabriel's leap, but any claims of a push can only be labelled as soft. Jesse Marsch, recently admonished for his touchline behaviour, pondered in puzzlement with a firm shake of the head.
Bamford's eventful afternoon was far from over. A handball from William Saliba just past the hour-mark presented him with a prime opportunity to end a goalless run stretching back to last December. Injury has deprived him of the platform to build on his 17-goal haul in 2020/21 but any hopes of a renaissance were dashed when he failed to convert from the spot.
Aaron Ramsdale rubbed salt into the wounds with a celebratory scream in Bamford's face but Adams has confirmed that Bamford has the full backing of the Leeds dressing room.
"I feel for him a little bit but he came in and completely changed the game," Adams told LUFC TV.
"So he should have confidence moving forward that when he's in the situations, especially in front of goal, that he's going to put them away. The team have complete confidence so yeah he'll get one."
Bamford thought he had a chance of redemption at the death when Chris Kavanagh pointed to the spot in stoppage time. Bamford went down after Gabriel kicked out at him inside the penalty area.
Gabriel was sent off for his misdemeanour until a pitchside review prompted Kavanagh to not only overturn Leeds' penalty, but also rescind Gabriel's red card.
Bamford played just 560 minutes in the Premier League last term and has made only three starts this season after he faced another spell on the sidelines in August.
