Leeds corner shop worker tried to steal winning Euromillions ticket from deaf customer

A Leeds shop worker tried to steal £130,000 from a vulnerable pensioner who had won on the Euromillions.

The retired 81-year-old had bagged himself a lucky ticket but was almost swindled out of his winnings by greedy Narendra Gill, 52, who told him he'd bought a losing ticket.

Gill, of Boroughbridge Road in York was working at the GT News shop at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds when she tried to steal the money, the Sun reports.

Camelot staff became suspicious when Gill called them and they heard her serving customers. She told them where she worked but claimed a customer had given her the ticket.

Gill later admitted theft and fraud at Leeds Crown Court and her victim was identified by police on CCTV who called him to tell him what had happened.

He told the Sun he remembered Gill giving him eight tickets and telling him they were all losers.

She then called Camelot claiming she had the winning ticket just 15 minutes after he left.

Recorder Dafydd Enoch QC jailed her for 28 months.

He said: "People who work in these places need to hear the message that you cannot abuse your position when it comes to dealing with millions of pounds. Trust is so important."
