Leeds can solve Manchester United’s transfer Achilles heel if Jadon Sancho position remains

Manchester United's clash with Leeds United is sure to be played out amid an exhilarating atmosphere at Elland Road.

Each team is in need of three points and Leeds' supporters will relish welcoming United's faithful to their patch for the first time since winning promotion in 2020.

Ralf Rangnick has said his team are prepared for the game and warned his side face a different sort of contest against Marcelo Bielsa's men.

“Leeds are playing in a very special way," he said. “They are playing very fast transitional football when they are in possession. When they pass the ball they are trying to increase the tempo of the game.

“They probably play with the highest speed and tempo [in the Premier League]. On the other hand, they have conceded quite a few goals and I think we know we are prepared for the game.”

Leeds have loads of influential players that help them play in that particular way and one of those is Raphinha, who's been absolutely sensational for Bielsa this season.

The 25-year-old Brazilian winger has easily been the Yorkshire side's best player this season and has so far scored eight goals and assisted on two occasions in 21 Premier League matches.

His impressive form has seen him linked to a host of top European clubs, with the likes of Bayern Munich and United both rumoured to be admirers.

At the same time, there will be United supporters who think the club shouldn't go for Raphinha because that's what Jadon Sancho was signed for - to occupy the right-hand channel for the next few seasons.

However, in reality it's not quite panned out that way.

In the majority of matches Sancho has played under Rangnick, he's been deployed on the left-hand side of United's attack, which has resulted in Marcus Rashford being played on the right.

Even in United's last match, the 2-0 win over Brighton, where Sancho started on the right, he ended up drifting over to the left touchline and it means there's still another gaping hole in the team.

Filling the right-wing position has been a transfer Achilles heel for United, arguably since Antonio Valencia was signed from Wigan to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Everyone thought Sancho was finally going to fill a void, but if he's going to continue on the left, another body is needed and Raphinha could be that man. He even betters some of United's other wingers in certain areas of his game.

As well as scoring more goals compared to United's other wingers, he’s averaged 5.38 dribbles per 90 this season, with just under half (2.15) proving successful. No United players can better those numbers in the Premier League this season.

On top of that, he's made more tackles and interceptions (3.18) per 90 than United's wingers, showing he can do the defensive work when required, which has been a criticism of Rangnick's wide players, who don't track back well.

Whether United make a move for him remains to be seen, but he'd certainly be a great option - not to mention a signing to provoke plenty of irritation on the other side of the Pennines.
