Leeds Brewdog bar shuts suddenly as bosses blame 'spiralling costs'

A major craft beer chain has suddenly closed its Headingley branch.

Scottish brewery and pub chain, Brewdog, closed down its bar in Headingley during February. The bar, which was located in Otley Road, opened in 2020 in partnership with Reds True Barbeque (RTB). RTB had been based in the building for many years prior and remains open.

Its partner made the decision to close Brewdog due to "increasing costs" and "spiralling bills" that have hit the economy causing lots of businesses to shut up shop. But the bar has confirmed there will be no job losses.

The craft beer chain opened the bar in Headingley as part of their ongoing expansion, that has gone from strength to strength with more pubs in Yorkshire and dozens across the world. A spokesperson for Brewdog said: "Unfortunately, our partner in Headingley has had to take the difficult decision to close the Headingley bar amidst the current economic backdrop of increasing costs, including spiralling energy bills. All staff have been offered roles in other venues in the city operated by our partner. There will be no job losses”.

Other Leeds Brewdog venues in Crown Street and New York Road remain open.
