Leeds Bradford Airport ranked among worst in UK as customers slam queues

Leeds Bradford Airport has been slammed for its security queues in a new ranking of airport customer satisfaction.

A new survey by consumer watchdog Which? Travel saw the West Yorkshire airport receive just one star out of five for its security queues. The survey is based on 7,500 travellers ranking UK airports on various facilities.

Out of the 29 airports ranked, Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) came 21st. It received an average score of 52% for customer satisfaction from 211 respondents - though did beat bigger airports like Manchester and three Heathrow terminals.

LBA also received one star ratings for its range of shops and the prices inside those shops. Consumers ranked it two stars for seating, staff and toilets.

On check-in queues, bag drop queues, passport control queues, and baggage reclaim, LBA received three stars out of five. It didn't receive any ratings higher than three stars for any of its facilities Which? surveyed.

The survey follows a summer of reports of long queues stretching outside the building at the airport in Yeadon. When LeedsLive flew from LBA in June, the security queue stretched through the airport and took one hour and ten minutes - though staff were making sure people didn't miss flights by getting people from the queues.

A spokesperson for LBA, said: “Earlier this year, we had some periods of long queueing following the rapid resumption of international travel post-pandemic.

"We apologise to impacted passengers and welcome all feedback, as we use this to improve our services moving forwards, especially as we look to modernise our existing terminal. We remain committed to delivering the best passenger experience possible at LBA and strive to operate an airport the region can be proud of.”

Guy Hobbs, Editor of Which? Travel said: “This year we’ve witnessed unprecedented chaos at many of the UK’s largest airports. Travellers reported extensive queues and unhelpful staff, with resources pushed to breaking point.

“Just a few years ago, travellers may have paid little attention to their choice of airport – but now it may just make or break your trip. Wherever possible, we’d recommend opting for smaller airports, which have generally offered a smoother and less stressful experience for their passengers over the last two years.”
