A couple living under the flight path from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) claim the aeroplanes are “getting noisier” and more frequently passing over between 2am and 3am.
Married couple Steve and Jane Haworth, 69 and 65 respectively, are fed up of getting “disturbed” by aeroplane engines high above their home in Cookridge, on a street just off Tinshill Road, with each flight "scrambling the picture on their television".
They’re sick of getting woken up by the aircrafts and have asked the airport, over in Yeadon, if the disruptive noise might be tempered in any way. They have stressed the area is residential and want the planes to be "quieter" to calm their nerves.

A spokeswoman for LBA says it is continuing to operate well within its environmental and noise permits for flights.
Steve Haworth said: “It’s getting a bit noisier and the flights are going a bit longer into the night than they used to be. We’re getting earlier flights as well. My wife in particular get disturbed in the early morning with the flights waking her up.
"I’m not sure if they’re scheduled flights or overspill but we do get them sometimes in the middle of the night. It is disturbing.”
The grandad-of-three is a retired army and police officer and the couple have lived on the estate for more than five years. They knew about the flight path moving in but say the noise has gotten much worse in recent months.
Steve said: “It’s very much a residential area you see, if the aeroplanes get quieter then that would be good.”
Their aerial TV is also affected by each flight causing it to pixelate and often just switch off. They’ve purchased a filter device, which “helps a bit but we still have a problem with it” and the channels are all different.
Steve said: “If the wind is in the wrong direction, it [the plane] gets noisier. So I’d prefer if they could keep a track of the noise. The last thing is pollution, I don’t know about the pollution issues but we’d like some reassurance about air pollution levels.”
The spokeswoman for LBA also said that flights to and from the Yeadon airport have increased since the resumption of global travel following a reduction during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, she added that the current total number of flights at LBA is still less than pre-pandemic levels.
