Ethan Ampadu: Chelsea and Leeds agree £10m deal for versatile defender

Chelsea have accepted a £7million bid from Leeds for Ethan Ampadu.

The 22-year-old has been included in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the pre-season tour of the USA, but will now stay behind to wrap up the move.

As exclusively revealed earlier on Monday, the Wales international also had interest from clubs in the Premier League, Italy and Spain but Leeds’ bid was the only concrete interest and will now undergo a medical.

Ampadu, who trained under new manager Pochettino last week, has just one year left on his contract and Chelsea were ready to cash in.

Chelsea set the asking price at £12m but have agreed a £7m fee with Leeds plus £3m in add-ons, and a sell-on clause.

Ian Maatsen is another Chelsea youngster attracting interest, with Burnley looking to sign him permanently after a successful loan spell last season, but is on the plane flying Stateside.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is unlikely to travel with the squad, however, with Fulham keen to secure his signature this week.

Cesare Casadei, Mason Burstow, Bashir Humphreys and Lucas Bergstrom are among the youngsters to be selected for the upcoming tour.
