The popular Christmas burrito served at Leeds' Barburrito has been raved about for years so we decided to see whether it is really worth it.
The Mexican eatery, with 14 stores across the UK, has a Leeds hub based in Boar Lane. It has been inundated with five-star reviews due to the "fantastic food" and "brilliant service."
"You've got to try Barburrito," my friends often say. On the menu there is a selection of burrito fillings to choose from such as the classic chicken, 'this isn't chicken' burrito, a superfood burrito, and the California burrito which is filled with fries and melted cheese. Customers can choose from grilled chicken, pulled pork, chicken and chorizo, spicy stredded chicken, or vegan chicken inside.

As its the festive season I had to try the Christmas burrito with pork pigs in blankets, festive cranberry salsa and jalapeno gravy wrapped in a flour tortilla, filled with spinach, white rice, onions, peppers, and cheese. I have to admit while I love all these ingredients I wasn't sure how they would all taste together in neatly tied wrap.
I ordered it via Deliveroo and it came within around 15 minutes in a branded bag and wrapped neatly. Unpacking the burrito the scent festive sent shivers down my spine and it was a lot bigger than I expected. My stomach was rumbling, and I was ready to tuck in to what looked and sounded like a delightful treat.
Taking my first bite I immediately loved the soft flour bread which pulled apart beautifully. The pig in blankets inside were crispy and the accompaniment of the festive cranberry salsa was amazing - I would love to know how Barburrito made this scrumptious sauce.
The burrito tasted like a modern day Christmas dinner in a wrap - something I thought I would not enjoy but now can't believe I've never had before. I thought the rice and cheese accompanied with the Sunday roast-style fillings would be strange but it was the perfect combination. Barburrito are great at mixing the traditional Mexican-style dishes and adding a Christmas twist.
I would say I wish the ingredients were more spread apart within the burrito; as I peeled the tin foil from the top, I ended up eating the pork, then the rice, then getting down to vegetables. I would have like the components mixed together more throughout the wrap to combine everything together. I flipped the burrito on its side so I was able to get the full experience of all the flavours togethers.
It was really delicious and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I began to understand the hype around Barburrito's food.
I had this takeaway for an evening meal and I felt really full afterwards. I would say it is perfect for a quick tea or a larger lunch. There is also a selection of fries and tortilla chips and Mexican-style dips that can be added as sides, as well as chicken wings.
The burrito was £9.95, and while it was delicious and filling, I think it is overpriced. I think it should be priced around £5-£6. There are a range of meal deals on the menu including a burrito, side, and drink and priced at around £14.25. If I were to order again I would likely choose the meal deal as this seems better value for money.
One thing I would love to try next time is the range of desserts on offer at the eatery too - from sugary donuts to brownies. Idu would definately return to Barburrito again, but due to the price it isn't somewhere I'd go to regularly for a quick bite but rather for a takeaway treat on occasion.
Overall I would give Barburitto a 8/10 rating.
