Former Rangers boss Mark Warburton has insists Lee Wallace could have starred in the Premier League.
The ex-Ibrox manager has paid tribute to the full back who announced his retirement earlier this week. Wallace enjoyed a long spell in Govan after being singed by Ally McCoist from Hearts in the summer of 2011. The move came just months before Rangers were dealt a huge blow that saw them drop to the bottom tier of the Scottish game. Amid the chaos, the Scotland international opted to stay put and was a key player for The Light Blues as the battled their way back up the leagues.
However, the left-back would eventually depart Ibrox in the summer of 2019 to make his way south of the border. And the move saw the Wallace reunite with former Gers gaffer Mark Warburton as Queens Park Rangers, with the now West Ham coach believing the defender's talent could have seen him make his mark amongst the big boys in the English Premier League.
“When he came to QPR he was getting older and I often spoke to people down here about Lee, saying we couldn’t have afforded to get him if we went back five or six years because he was so good.” Reports Rangers Review.
“He would have been the best left-sided defender in the Championship, without a doubt. He’d have gone to the Premier League."
