Lee Mead refuses to discuss ex Denise Van Outen weeks after she revealed split details

Lee Mead admits keeping his private life away from the public is the "most important thing" - following ex wife Denise Van Outen 's open letter to their daughter Betsy.

The Any Dream Will Do winner, 41, has revealed he wants to talk about his career and keep his "private life private".

His comments come just weeks after TV presenter Denise, 49, wrote an emotional letter to their daughter, 12, detailing their family and relationship.

In the piece, she revealed she was “adamant” to not let the split to affect her daughter, writing: "You were just three and we both had a duty of care to make everything the best it possibly could be.

"To be honest, it was never too difficult — me and your dad have always had a great deal of respect for each other and co-parenting came naturally," she wrote for The Sun.

Denise added: “Even now when he drops you off after you’ve stayed at his, he’ll usually come in for a cuppa, so you can see that our relationship is genuine.”

The musical theatre and Holby City actor has recently got engaged to his fiancé Issy, where he discussed if he felt "less pressure" to be in the spotlight this time.

"I wouldn't say it's much pressure really it's kind of what you make of it. It depends how public you are with your private life and your relationship," he told The Express.

He added: "For me, I'm very proud to be with my partner but I'm not someone that would regularly talk about my private life or do all the shoots and that kind of thing.

"And that's fine if that's something that is right for one person. But certainly, I think for me, it's more about talking about my career and then keeping my private life private really, because it's the most important thing, isn't it?"

Denise and Lee met on the BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007, which aimed to find the next Joseph to perform in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit West End musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

She was a judge and Lee was a contestant, but that didn’t stop them from hitting it off, and they began dating shortly after he was crowned winner.

Denise and Lee tied the knot in 2009, and they welcomed daughter Betsy just one year later, but sadly, the couple split in 2013.

The former Big Breakfast host is said to be in a relationship with property developer Jimmy Barba after her shock split from fiancé Eddie Boxshall at the very start of 2022.
