Lee Johnson vows to bring identity to Hibernian

Lee Johnson vows to bring identity to Hibs as new boss makes fan request

LEE JOHNSON, the new Hibernian manager, has vowed to instill a sense of identity in the team after the 40-year-old was unveiled at Easter Road.

The former Barnsley, Bristol City and Sunderland boss was appointed on a four-year deal in Leith on Thursday.

The Englishman has asked supporters to fill the stands and give their backing to the team and in return, Johnson has promised to play an entertaining brand of football.

Speaking to the club's website, the Johnson admitted he had been biding his time since leaving the Stadium of Light in January and was waiting for the right opportunity arose. When Hibs got in touch, he knew it was the club for him.

"Since leaving Sunderland, I have been waiting for the right fit for me - I have played in Scotland before so I understand the passion and expectation that comes with a club like Hibs," Johnson explained.

"I will commit fully to this football club. I will commit to the area, I’ll commit to the people, the players and give everything I have got.

“I want to see this stadium packed out; I want to bring an identity to this football club.

"I want the fans to be a big part of our identity, I want to see them encouraging the way we play and to become part of the performance.

"When you crack that, you can be really powerful and have good success in Scotland.

“I have enjoyed learning about the history of the club and I will continue to learn more about it. I am a bit of a history geek to be honest and I enjoy getting into the psyche of the fanbase and looking back at the historical routes of the club.

"It makes you feel like you are a part of something bigger than just football."
